Conchata Ferrell stayed active after Two and Half Men, but her health declined in 2020.
Conchata Ferrell left a mark on Hollywood thanks to her work on Two and a Half Men. She made a fortune from the show despite initially only being hired for two episodes. We'll have more on that a little later.
In the following, we're going to discuss Ferrell's declining health once the show came to an end, and what took place. She was in and out of the hospital during 2020, and sadly, she passed away that year.
Let's take a closer look at the struggles Conchata faced with her health, and what happened to her career after Two and a Half Men.
Conchata Ferrell Was In And Out Of The Hospital Following Her Time On Two And A Half Men
Conchata Ferrell was a pivotal part of Two and Half Men. Sadly, when the show came to an end, Ferrell was in and out of the hospital, particularly during 2020. Conchata had a kidney infection and to make matters that much worse, she was put in a long-term care facility after suffering a heart attack.
TMZ wrote at the time, "Conchata's husband, Arnie, tells TMZ ... the actress -- known to fans all over the world as Berta -- was recently transferred to a long-term care facility following more than 4 weeks in ICU. She landed in the hospital in May after feeling ill. We're told the illness was related to an infection she battled back in December/January."
During her time in the ICU, things got worse for Conchata after she went into cardia arrest for at least 10 minutes. She did get stable, but was unable to talk or communicate at the time.
Sadly, Ferrell passed away shortly after, at the age of 77. Tributes came in from former cast members, including Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer.
Conchata Ferrell Passed Away Of A Cardiac Arrest At The Age Of 77
Ferrell passed away on October 12th, 2020. The Two and a Half Men star died of cardiac arrest complications.
Several tributes came in following her passing, and that includes Jon Cryer who wrote on Twitter, "She was a beautiful human Berta’s gruff exterior was an invention of the writers. Chatty’s warmth and vulnerability were her real strengths. I’m crying for the woman I’ll miss, and the joy she brought so many."
He continues, "I remember her first day on 2 1/2 Men. It was our second episode and I felt so lucky that they’d been able to cast her on the show. I gushed to her about what a fan i was of hers and she simply refused to believe it."
Charlie Sheen also issued a tribute of his own, writing, "An absolute sweetheart. A consummate pro," continued Sheen. "A genuine friend. A shocking and painful loss. Berta, your housekeeping was a tad suspect, your 'people' keeping was perfect."
Conchata will always be remembered for her time on Two and a Half Men, though she also had other performances following her time on the show.
Conchata Ferrell Made Minor Cameos Following Her Time On Two And A Half Men
Ferrell's final episode of Two and a Half Men took place in 2015. She appeared in 211 episodes total. Conchata continued with a number of appearances after the show, including 5 episodes of The Ranch alongside Ashton Kutcher. Her final project was released in 2020, the year of her passing in, Deported.
Despite her success with Two and a Half Men, Conchata Ferrell spoke to A.V. Club about her crusty but benign career. The actress revealed that her role on the show was initially meant for two episodes.
"I was supposed to quit because of Alan and the boy. But it was set up in the back storyline that I had taken care of Charlie for almost 20 years, and that we were really good friends, but neither one of us ever talked in terms of that. And I really liked working for him."
She continues, "I liked his lifestyle, I liked the fact that he lived the way he lived and he said what he said and he did what he did. [Laughs.] I liked him because he was a classier version of me, I thought. Now, These are my thoughts, not theirs."
Following the two episodes, Ferrell hoped she'd be extended on the show, feeling like a fit alongside the cast. Chuck Lorre agreed and, as they say, the rest is history. Her role on the show won't be forgotten, being known to be a scene-stealer.
