Other celebrities who have worked together form lasting friendships that continue long after filming is complete. It appears Heather Locklear and Charlie Sheen maintained a friendship with each other and have worked with each other more than once.
When Charlie Sheen received life-changing news, Heather Locklear wanted to reach out to her former cast mate to offer him her support. It appears she genuinely wanted to be there for a friend she cared for. However, not all of his former co-stars seemed as supportive as Locklear when Sheen was going through his roughest time. During Charlie Sheen's toughest times, Heather Locklear showed her support for Charlie Sheen, unlike Jenny McCarthy.
Charlie Sheen's Toughest Time Behind The Scenes
Like everybody else, some celebrities might have to endure and survive painful experiences throughout their lives, including losing loved ones, tough family breakups, or receiving an unexpected diagnosis.
According to a Today article, in 2015, Charlie Sheen opened up in an interview with Today to reveal he had been diagnosed with HIV about four years earlier, unsure how he had come in contact with it. Sheen said, "It's a hard three letters to absorb. It's a turning point in one's life."
He discussed being diagnosed before making it public. "It started with what I thought was a series of crushing headaches. I thought I had a brain tumor. I thought it was over."
Sheen also thinks that by coming forward himself, maybe it could help others. The Hot Shots actor stated, "I have a responsibility now to better myself and to help a lot of other people and hopefully with what we're doing today others will come forward and say, 'Thanks, Charlie'".
According to ABC News, in a 2017 interview with Good Morning America, Sheen discussed his diagnosis, including being "grateful" for his health care since his diagnosis. "I'm so grateful for what was available when it happened, and even more grateful for what's available right now, when I'm, I'm in the middle of it, you know?"
Sheen also added, "some days are better than others. But, but most days are pretty frickin' cool."
Heather Locklear Supported Charlie Sheen During His Toughest Times
Several celebrities have been known to get into famously public feuds with some people they work with, while others are able to truly connect and form strong friendships. Some celebrities will even continue to stick by their friends when they are going through hard times.
Charlie Sheen and Heather Locklear appear to be two celebrities who share a strong bond, or at the very least a pretty solid friendship. Speaking about some of his former co-stars (all women), Sheen seemed to indicate the one he enjoyed working with the most was Heather Locklear.
According to etonline, "Sheen was only fond of his Spin City co-star. 'Heather,' Sheen quickly replied. 'And then Heather.'"
Locklear also seemed to know about his diagnosis before he opened up about it in his interview. According to Page Six, the Scrubs actor had sent a supportive message to Sheen on social media before the interview aired.
Locklear wrote, "My heart hurts. Prayers for Charlie and his family." She also had the message attached to a picture of her and her former Spin City co-star Sheen.
It seems his Scary Movie 5 cast mate wanted to show her support for her friend, Charlie Sheen, despite how others might respond to what he revealed in his interview. As well as Heather Locklear, other celebrities offered their support to Sheen.
How Did Jenny McCarthy Respond After Charlie Sheen Opened Up?
When celebrities open up about something they had been secretive about, the responses can vary. Some celebrities will keep quiet about certain things, such as family issues and illnesses, while others might open up right away.
When Charlie Sheen opened up about his HIV diagnosis in 2015, he also revealed he had had it for years, trying to keep the secret from almost everyone. However, some who knew wanted money to keep quiet, which seems to be part of the reason Sheen came forward and revealed his diagnosis.
One of his former co-stars, Jenny McCarthy, seemed to have a less supportive response than Heather Locklear upon learning of the actor's HIV diagnosis.
According to the Independent, McCarthy discussed her reaction to Sheen's diagnosis with a SiriusXM Radio show. McCarthy remarked, “For years I’ve signed this piece of paper and now, being on Two and a Half Men myself, and playing a love interest you would think that there would be some type of, I don’t want to say criminal issue, but I don’t even know how to feel about that. I’m like, wait a second, if I have to be upfront about a herpe, how can you not be upfront about HIV?”
According to the article, Sheen's management addressed her concerns. "Sheen’s management told People he contracted HIV 'long after' working with McCarthy on the series."
McCarthy added, “He’s sick and it’s awful, but man he’s going to have to take some major accountability with many people in his life.”
Sheen stated in his Today interview "it was 'impossible' that he knowingly transmitted the virus to others." However, according to Page Six, "Sheen has settled a lawsuit filed by an ex in which she claimed the actor knowingly exposed her to HIV, per TMZ."
