Charlie Sheen decided to play the blame game, while Cryer wasn't as concerned following Angus T. Jones' Two and a Half Men exit.
Despite its obvious success, it is truly hard to believe that Two and a Half Men lasted 12 seasons, especially given all the breakdowns and controversy to take place behind the scenes. Throughout the show's lengthy run, Charlie Sheen made a controversial exit, while Angus T. Jones also took a shot at the show, while making an exit of his own.
Both Jon Cryer and Charlie Sheen discussed Angus' meltdown at the time, and took two very different approaches. Charlie decided to play the blame game, while Cryer wasn't as concerned, downplaying what had taken place behind the scenes. Let's take a closer look at how it all went down.
Angus T. Jones Turned On Two And A Half Men Due His Religious Beliefs At The Time
At one point, Angus T. Jones was the highest earning child star in all of Hollywood. However, Jones turned his back on the show, advising fans to stop watching despite all those years on the series. Jones referred to the show as "filth" while he also told fans that the effects from such a show can negatively impact someone's life.
He revealed in his rant, “If you watch Two and a Half Men, please stop watching Two and a Half Men. I’m on Two and a Half Men and I don’t want to be on it. Please stop watching it and filling your head with filth. People say it’s just entertainment. Do some research on the effects of television and your brain, and I promise you, you’ll have a decision to make when it comes to television, especially with what you watch.”
Not long after, Jones would apologize to the show for his comments. "I apologize if my remarks reflect me showing indifference to and disrespect of my colleagues and a lack of appreciation of the extraordinary opportunity of which I have been blessed. I never intended that.”
He continues, “I have been the subject of much discussion, speculation and commentary over the past 24 hours. While I cannot address everything that has been said or right every misstatement or misunderstanding, there is one thing I want to make clear."
"Without qualification, I am grateful to and have the highest regard and respect for all of the wonderful people on Two and Half Men with whom I have worked and over the past ten years who have become an extension of my family."
At the time of his controversial statement, former castmates were in shock. However, Jon Cryer took a different approach to the news.
Ashton Kutcher Was Concerned Revealing The News Of Angus T. Jones To Jon Cryer, But Cryer Completely Downplayed The Situation
Jon Cryer recalls the entire ordeal and how he learned about Angus' departure from Two and a Half Men, along with the meltdown that came with it. Cryer was told by Ashton Kutcher, who looked like he had seen a ghost when revealing what had taken place. Cryer decided to downplay the situation, choosing to joke around instead.
He tells Daily Mail, "As I said having become a veteran of the internet s**t storm afterward I just looked at Ashton and said, "Well do you think he still wants to go in on the crew gift?"
'It’s just been one after the other. 'My life has taken a lot of strange turns. Mostly I’m just glad everybody is still alive."
Despite the seriousness of the moment, Cryer admitted to not feeling concerned about his former co-star, knowing he wasn't in any type of danger.
"Angus’ one was so minor because I wasn’t actually worried that any actual harm would come to him and he’s already been back to work several times."
As for Charlie's take, he saw things much differently.
Charlie Sheen Had A Different Reaction To Angus T. Jones' Meltdown Putting The Blame On Chuck Lorre
Charlie Sheen also briefly joked that the show was cursed. However, the actor had a different take, putting the blame on creator Chuck Lorre. According to Sheen, working for Lorre caused extra stress for the cast - and he claims the same held true for Melanie Lynskey during her time on the show, dealing with Lorre.
Sheen reveals about Jones' meltdown, "Obviously, not having been there for some time, the Angus T. Jones that I knew and still love is not the same guy I saw."
"I dare anyone to spend 10 years in the laugh track that is Chuck Lorre's hive of oppression and not suffer from some form of an emotional tsunami. He's a good kid but maybe over-influenced in some other beliefs."
As for Angus, at the very least things ended on a positive note as he made a return during the Two and a Half Men finale. Chuck Lorre praised his involvement, which was viewed as a positive behind the scenes.
